French Club -- "Le Cercle Français"

The "Cercle Français" at NC State is an active organization open to all interested persons who are part of the NC State community. Our members include a variety of individuals--undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and university staff, francophone members of the campus community--who are interested in the French language and French and francophone cultures.

The main function of the "Cercle Français" is to promote French language and culture and to provide its members with an opportunity to practice their French skills and share their knowledge of French and francophone cultures in an informal environment. No dues are charged and affiliation with the university is the only requirement for membership.

The club meets bimonthly during the fall and spring semesters. These meetings are devoted to informal conversation as well as culturally related activities such as celebrations of special holidays, food samplings, and informal presentations by individuals from a French-speaking country or students who want to share their experience in a French-speaking country. Activities are sometimes organized in the evening to view and discuss a film in French, or to share a special dinner featuring the finest cuisine from France and francophone countries. The club also plans outings such as visits to museums or to film festivals in the area. The "Cercle Français" occasionally co-sponsors events such as musical concerts or lectures with the "Alliance Française," which gives our members the opportunity to interact with native French speakers and francophiles in the Raleigh community.
