Final Exam Content

The exam is comprehensive and will cover pages 1-146 in the textbook and corresponding material in MindTap. Formats are similar to activities assigned for homework and practiced in class as well as those used on hourly exams.

Parte de Comprensión Auditiva 

  1. ¡Fuera de lugar! Similar in format to the “¡Fuera de lugar!”section on each hourly exam. Listen to groups of 4 items and write the item that is out of place.
  2. Definiciones. Select the word defined by the instructor.
  3. Un mensaje de México. Listen to the information given, then decide whether answers are true or false.
  4. Las emociones. Describe how the people in the illustrations are feeling based on your professor's descriptions. 
  5. Preguntas orales. Answer questions using complete Spanish sentences.

NOTE: At the conclusion of the listening comprehension section, that portion of the final will be collected.

Parte Escrita

  1. La clase. A) Label six items in the picture.
  2. La familia. A) Describe the relationship between family members given. B) Describe family and friends using adjectives. C) Write out the numbers of the mathematical equations given.
  3. Actividades y el tiempo. A) Write sentences to describe the activity in drawings. B) Describe the weather in drawings.
  4. En la casa. A and B) Identify parts of houses and furniture. C) Describe what you do in a house; D) Write out checks using the numbers given.
  5. Una carta. Complete a letter with the correct form of the present tense of verbs selected from a list.
  6. Saber/conocer. Create sentences using the included elements and saber or conocer.
  7. Present tense and adjective agreement. Create sentences using elements from each column of words.
  8. Possessives. Answer questions describing who owns what, using two ways of showing possession, when possible.
  9. Telling time. Write sentences using the words and times given, with additional words as needed.
  10. Gustar. Answer questions using the "gustar" construction.
  11. Present progressive. Describe what the people in the pictures are doing using the present progressive.
  12. Present tense of stem-changing verbs (e to ie; o to ue; e to i). Write sentences using words given and stem-changing verbs.
  13. Encuentro cultural. Review all "Cultura", "¿Nos entendemos?" "Comentario cultural,” "Nota lingüística,” "¡A explorar!” and the "Encuentro cultural" sections of the chapters. Decide whether the statements concerning Hispanic culture are True or False. 
  14. Affirmative familiar commands. Write the correct affirmative familiar command of the infinitive. 
  15. Lectura.  Read a passage in Spanish and answer questions in English.

Sección de comprensión comprensión auditiva

I. Fuera de lugar.. Listen to groups of words and write the item that is out of place.
II. Descripciones. Listen to descriptions, then match descriptions with a picture of what is described.
III. Definiciones.  Listen to definitions/descriptions, then choose the items described/defined. 
IV. Discurso informativo. Listen to a paragraph. Write sí or no to indicate if you hear particular information or not and fill in missing information.
V. Una entrevista. Answer questions using complete sentences in Spanish. Review all verb tenses studied in class. 

NOTE: At the conclusion of the listening comprehension section, that portion of the final will be collected.

Sección Escrita

I. Dibujos. Complete sentences by filling in the blanks with the appropriate form of Ser or Estar.
II. ¿A quién le corresponde? Indicate to whom items belong using the correct form of the "long" or "emphatic" possessives.
III. Verbos reflexivos. Complete the paragraph choosing the correct verb from a list of reflexive and non-reflexive verbs, then conjugate the verb correctly and use the correct reflexive pronoun where one is required.
IV. Palabras interrogativas. Complete questions using the correct interrogative word.
V. Adjetivos y pronombres demostrativos. Choose the correct demonstrative adjective or pronoun according to context.
VI. Pretérito. Fill in the blanks with the correct form of the preterite of the verb in parenthesis.
VII. Imperfecto. Fill in the blanks with the correct form of each verb in the imperfect tense.
VIII. Pretérito/imperfecto. Fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verb in parenthesis, using the preterite or imperfect as the case requires.
IX. Comparativos y Superlativos. Complete sentences with comparisons of equality and inequality, and form superlatives based on information given. You will not answer questions.
X. Pronombres de objeto directo e indirecto. 3 section exercise. In first section, answer questions using the correct direct object pronoun. In the second section, complete sentences filling in the blanks with the correct indirect object pronoun. In the third section, respond to questions using both the direct and indirect object pronouns.
XI. Expresiones afirmativas y negativas. Answer questions about a drawing. A list of affirmative and negative expressions wil be provided.
XII. Mandatos formales e informales. Fill in the blank with the correct form of the formal or informal command, as indicated for each section, of the verb in parenthesis.
XIII. Lectura. A short reading with comprehension questions, similar to the readings found in the Encuentro cultural sections of the Textbook.

I. Categorías.  Listen to groups of words/phrases and write the one that does not belong to the group. 
II. Definiciones. . Listen to definitions and descriptions of words and phrases and choose each word or phrase that is described or defined. Word bank provided. 
III., Lógico o no.  Listen to sentences and indicate if each one is logical or not. 
IV. Selección auditiva.  Listen to a selection and write the requested information about what you hear.
V. Una entrevista.  Write answers to questions that are presented orally. Pay careful attention to verb tenses. 

NOTE: At the conclusion of the listening comprehension section, that portion of the final will be collected.

Sección escrita

I. Una boda. Similar to drawings shown for vocabulary in Chapter 10 in Textbook. Write sentences with reciprocal and non-reciprocal verbs to describe activities in drawings. 
II. Una cuenta de ahorros. Complete sentences with por and para according to context. 
III. El lugar rural and la metrópolis
A. Complete sentences with correct form of verbs according to context. Choose present indicative, present subjunctive or infinitive.
B. Main clauses given. Complete sentences logically using subjunctive and indicative correctly.
IV. La recepción.  Verb bank provided. Choose logical verb and write correct past participle used as adjective. 
V. La tele. Complete sentences using future tense. Choose appropriate verbs from verb bank according to context of each sentence.
VI. Una campaña.  Complete sentences with present perfect subjunctive or present perfect indicative verb form according to context. 
VII. El museo de arte.  Adjectives will be in a list at the beginning of the activity. Choose correct adjective according to context, form adverb, and complete each sentence with adverb. 
VIII. Una entrevista.  Complete sentences in an original manner using the conditional tense.
IX. La vida en el pasado.  Write the correct form of each verb in the past (imperfect) subjunctive.
X. Una tienda nueva.  Multiple choice. Choose correct form of verb to complete each sentence. Choose present indicative, present subjunctive, infinitive or past subjunctive.
XI. Lectura. Read a selection based on one of the Encuentro cultural sections in the Textbook. Respond to true/false statements about content. For each false statement, write correct information to replace the part that is false.

Final Exam Structure and Content

Comprensión auditiva (25%)

I. Definiciones: Escucha la definición que se lee y escoge el término que se define.

II. Cultura: Personas Escucha la descripción y escribe la letra de la persona que se describe.

III. Cultura: Geografía, cultura e historia Escucha la descripción del término geográfico, histórico o cultural y escribe la letra del término que se describe.

IV. Una selección: Escucha la selección sobre un acontecimiento histórico latinoamericano y decide si las oraciones a continuación son Ciertas (C) o Falsas (F).

V. Preguntas personales: Contesta las preguntas con un mínimo de una oración completa en español, incorporando vocabulario del semestre.

Sección escrita (75%)

I. Las expresiones negativas, afirmativas e indefinidas: Adela siempre es pesimista y negativa. Escribe las respuestas negativas de Adela en una oración completa, incorporando la forma negativa que corresponde a la palabra subrayada.

II. Los tiempos perfectos: Completa las oraciones utilizando uno de los tiempos perfectos: el presente perfecto, el pluscuamperfecto, el futuro perfecto o el condicional perfecto, o el presente perfecto del subjuntivo.

III. Los tiempos perfectos y el vocabulario: Contesta las preguntas de una manera lógica. Para cada pregunta, es necesario incorporar vocabulario del semestre y tiempos perfectos lógicos.

IV.Terminaciones: Completa las oraciones con el presente del indicativo o subjuntivo, el imperfecto del indicativo o subjuntivo, o el infinitivo.

V. Posibilidades: Las cláusulas con si Completa las oraciones de forma lógica. Fíjate bien en los tiempos verbales que usas en cada caso.

VI. Comprensión de leer: Lee el fragmento del texto. Contesta las preguntas que siguen la lectura.

VII. Un párrafo sobre un tema personal: Escribe un párrafo siguiendo las instrucciones.

VIII. Los cortometrajes: Escoge uno de los cortometrajes y escribe una narración en el pasado siguiendo las instrucciones.
